The Certificate in Theology is for those who are interested in furthering their theological education, but do not want (or need) a degree. Many students in this certificate program are involved in leadership within their home churches and want to further explore the depth and richness of theology; thinking about God, His Kingdom, and the world more deeply. This certificate allows students to concentrate fully on Theology.
ON-CAMPUS & ONLINE
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The Certificate in Theology introduces students to historical, comparative, contemporary, and practical theologies, emphasizing both the historical unity and global diversity of the Church. Students also learn to biblically evaluate, creatively articulate, and practically apply doctrine, in order to faithfully participate in God’s drama of redemption.
Upon successful completion of this Certificate in Theology, students will be able to:
- Faithfully interpret the Scriptures within their original contexts and within the contexts of the historical unity and global diversity of the Church
- Demonstrate the importance and relevance of Christian theology by biblically, creatively, and practically applying doctrine to current cultural and global issues.
The Certificate in Theology equips students to identify the core elements of the biblical storyline and explain how the individual parts contribute to develop the storyline. Students will be able to exegete Scripture contextually and meaningfully and apply doctrine to current cultural and global issues.
- Encompasses five courses
- Provides a conceptual foundation for students desiring further biblical and theological education in a shorter program
- Completed units apply towards the BA in Theology or BA in Biblical Studies

Associate Dean of the Faculty of Theology
“The Faculty of Theology has observed a trend in higher education and within our local community: people who want further theological education but do not want (or need) a degree. Jessup’s Certificate in Theology helps fill that need by providing students with fundamental theological knowledge for ministry or personal interest.”
