Know Your Why: How to Succeed at Jessup Online

Like many working adults, Megan Harris knew there would be a learning curve to earning her graduate degree online. Technology changes. Teaching methods evolve. As a full-time teacher, wife, mom to three active kiddos, and an involved member of her church, it was important for Megan to have time to keep investing in the people closest to her.

But she knew her “why.” She believed God was calling her to a more administrative role in the next era of her career and chose to trust her decision.

Dreams for the Future

Currently a 2nd Grade Teacher in the San Juan Unified School District, Megan has been in the field for almost 15 years and plans to graduate from Jessup’s Online Master of Arts in Education in Fall 2024 with her Preliminary Administrative Services Credential.

“I would love to become a mentor for teacher support,” said Megan. “My district has a professional growth system that promotes continual development and improvement by supporting practitioners. If the Lord leads me to administration, I’d love to work with teachers as a peer facilitator.”

Faculty Support

This vision motivated her to ask for help. After jumping back into the rhythm of paper-writing and library research, Megan opened up to her professors about her challenges with returning to school. These instructors eased her doubt by walking through class assignments and expectations with her. By anchoring herself in prayer, this posture of humility—and vulnerability—is what helped her succeed.

“The way Jessup’s professors showed God’s love and fruits of the Spirit helped me realize they are here to help us grow and learn,” said Megan, gratefully. “I was never left to figure things out on my own.”

Building relationships with instructors and your cohort are important, and you’ll grow and graduate with not just a degree but a new worldview as Christian leader.”

As an online student, you’re encouraged to plan and organize ahead of time by looking at what needs to be completed the week before. Recorded lecture videos allow you to pause, take notes, and return to gather information. Even though students work at their own pace, all instructors are available via email or a Zoom call when you need support. And if you’re near our Rocklin campus, they are always free to say hi during office hours!

Great Educators, Great Leaders

We believe great educators make great leaders. Jessup has a rich heritage of students who become highly successful after graduating from our School of Education, later working and teaching in California, across the country, and throughout the world. We are continually encouraged by the stories from students and alumni who share what the Lord is doing in their lives and the difference they are making.

“I’ve said it multiple times,” said Megan. “I love this program!”

She is confident that when the Lord calls you to do something, he will faithfully provide and equip you for the work.

“Authenticity, wisdom, and love for the Lord shine through in how the instructors teach. Their feedback is always honest and loving. As a result, I have looked deeper into myself and how I want to move forward in education and as a Christian leader.”
