Biography:

Dr. Jon Robertson hails originally from Hood River, Oregon. He and his wife Erin served as missionaries for the Evangelical Covenant Church in Ecuador for 13 years. There, Jon served mainly in the national Ecuadorian church’s seminary, both as professor and rector. In addition to his work at the seminary, he also taught courses in theology, history, and biblical studies at the Universidad Cristiana Latinoamericana and the course Contemporary Christian Thought at the Centro de Comunicaciones Cristianas, both in Quito. In addition to his teaching he was deeply involved in pastoral work on a local level in the Quito area. Since 2007, Jon has taught in the areas of Historical Theology, New Testament, and Greek at Multnomah Biblical Seminary.

Jon earned his Master of Divinity at Western Baptist Seminary, Portland Oregon; and a Master of Studies and Doctorate of Philosophy from the University of Oxford. For his doctoral studies, he primarily focused on early Christian Theology, and his work culminated with the book Christ as Mediator: A Study of the Theologies of Eusebius of Caesarea, Marcellus of Ancyra, and Athanasius of Alexandria, published by Oxford University Press. In addition, he has published numerous articles and encyclopedia contributions on the subject of early Christian thought and its importance for the contemporary Christian scene. Recently, Jon has been working on the theological content and methodology of Ephrem the Syrian, focusing especially on his biblical exegesis and poetic theological expression.

Outside the classroom, Jon has a variety of interests, including woodcarving and amateur astronomy. He and Erin have three grown children, nine grandchildren and one cat.
