Spurring One Another on in Love: Encouraging Words From Alumni

Jessup alumni are part of the heartbeat of our University. Over the last 85 years, we have witnessed God’s faithfulness through the shared stories of those who have called Jessup home. While the college years are short in the grand scheme of life, they often play a pivotal role in the trajectory of the years that follow.

Earlier this fall, Jessup’s Advancement department hosted Alumni Giving Week encouraging alumni to support our current students spiritually and financially. They also were asked to provide notes of encouragement to our amazing students.

Here are a few examples of what they shared:

Darrell Foote (‘68): San Jose Bible College was such a blessing to me. The faculty was excellent and the students were great friends. There are two things I’d like to share about SJBC. First, it prepared me for ministry. I’m now in my 56th year of ministry – mostly in California. Second, SJBC is where I met Charleen Graham, the love of my life and my wife of 56 years this year!

Alana Jakee (‘99) – You’ve made a choice to follow God! Be encouraged, you will  NOT regret this choice! My degree was in Theology, but I ended up having a career in Real Estate. God has used all that I learned at SJCC in many ways during my career. God needs people in EVERY field. Getting a Biblical education is not just for the Church, but for the world. God told Abraham, “I will bless you and you will be a blessing.” Know that God will use all you learn, hear and touch in the world, no matter your career. Keep trusting! Glory to God, Amen.

Natali Corrington (‘08/’20): “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (John 14:27). Fellow Warrior, God knows your desires, he has provided them for you. Trust in Him and in His calling over you during this next season of life. He uses all for His good and His good is worth the journey.

Alaina Bremner (‘20): Make the most of your time at Jessup and pay attention to those around you, Be curious about faith, and seek God if you don’t know Him. I came to Jessup a non-Christian and found Jesus during my time there. He loves you!

Josh Spiva (‘23): Take everything one day at a time. If you feel lost or confused about what career path is best for you, or even what major is the best for you, just remember that you are not the only one. Everything takes time so trust that God’s got a plan for you. You are never too early or too late to step into what He has for you. You’ve got this!

Adriana Mata (‘24): Life doesn’t stop, and many times we are faced with challenges while juggling family, jobs and our education. Keep on pushing forward. Turn to your peers and your professors for support. Don’t be afraid, be vulnerable and let others know if you’re struggling. Support will always be there. You will never walk alone. We’ve got you!

Mia DeVecchio (‘20/’23): You are made for a purpose! God has called you to Jessup for a reason and He promises to never leave you. You may experience some hard days or difficult tests, but know that God is with you, He cares for you, and everything you learn here will be used for God’s glory and plan. Keep running the race with endurance, it will be worth it!

Grace Lambert (‘24): Remember that God is for you and He is with you. Whether you have a major success, experience friendship difficulties, have a great time at an event, or seem to have too many papers to write, God is with you through it all. Don’t forget to lean on Him through the good and the bad.
