Continuing the Legacy… Portland Seminary
Last fall, Jessup’s Multnomah Biblical Seminary opened its doors to continue its esteemed legacy of delivering scholarly biblical instruction. As the institution embraces another cohort of eager minds, it reaffirms its commitment to nurturing future leaders and scholars in the Christian faith.
Compelled by the love of Christ, Multnomah Biblical Seminary partners with the Church to educate transformational leaders for the glory of God. With a curriculum rooted in rigorous academic study and deepened by spiritual insight, the seminary remains dedicated to equipping students with both the intellectual tools and the spiritual wisdom necessary for effective ministry and thoughtful engagement with the world. This new chapter promises to uphold the seminary’s tradition of excellence, guiding students as they embark on a transformative journey of learning and growth in their pursuit of biblical understanding and service.
The DMin program is the first doctoral program delivered by Jessup University. “This program is undoubtedly a gift resulting from our partnership with Multnomah University,” said Seminary Dean, Dr. David Timms. “This offering allows us to not only expand our footprint in the Pacific Northwest, but also partner with more churches, parachurch organizations and various communities of people that we wouldn’t have otherwise served. It’s a very exciting time for us.”
Jessup will continue to administer a $50K grant from the Princeton Theological Seminary to assist with curriculum development in the DMin. In addition to the DMin program, the seminary features four distinct offerings including a Master of Divinity (MDiv), Master of Arts in Biblical Studies (MABS), Master of Arts in Global Development and Justice (MAGDJ) and a Master of Arts in Leadership (MAL).
Seminary Professor of Hebrew and Old Testament, Dr. Rebekah Josberger is an expert in original biblical languages and teaches foundational Hebrew. With Dr. Karl Kutz, she published “Learning Biblical Hebrew,” which is used extensively around the country in the study and teaching of Hebrew. “One of the most formative aspects of my time at Multnomah Biblical Seminary has come from being part of a community that loves students well,” Josberger said. “The faculty’s love for students is the natural overflow of a love for God and his Word, and is rooted not in how students perform, but in what God can do in and through them.”
“We are about more than simply a formal education,” said Seminary Professor of Christian Theology & Theology of Culture, Dr. Paul Metzger. “We are about spiritual formation that fosters leaders transformed by Christ’s compelling love and biblical wisdom. These qualities permeate our various programs in service to the Church as it engages the world with increasing cultural sensitivity marked by grace and truth. I pray with excitement to see how God’s Spirit will work through our students and graduates as they live out their distinctive callings by humbly serving people with empathy and discernment in pursuit of holistic spiritual health.” Metzger has written extensively on Christian theology, theology of culture, Scripture, ethics, philosophy, and world religions.
Over many decades, Multnomah Biblical Seminary has deeply impacted the world for Christ through its faculty and alumni. Its legacy will continue to embrace innovation and relevance without losing its deep commitment to Scripture and cultural engagement.
