What Can You Do with a Digital Humanities Degree?

One of the first questions a college-bound student will ask when choosing a major is, ‘What can I do with this major?’ Selecting a major goes beyond career considerations — it’s about aligning your passions, talents, and purpose with a field of study that will enrich your life. At the same time, we must balance our passions with practical considerations, such as finding a full-time job with health insurance and a salary that covers the rent.

The good news is that Digital Humanities is one of the most intellectually and emotionally rewarding disciplines, equipping students with in-demand skills for tomorrow’s workforce.

Are you an aspiring novelist or content creator?  High school or college teacher?  Researcher or data scientist? If so, Digital Humanities has a place for you.

Digital Humanities coursework cultivates in students the essential human skills — often called “soft skills” — employers desperately seek in college graduates. Completing a degree in Digital Humanities also equips you with the technical skills to analyze data and uncover its hidden stories. Students work with natural language processing tools, analyze data sets, and utilize AI in their projects.

Digital Humanities offers students a choice between three concentrations, each one to match students’ passions and career aspirations:

As George Anders writes in You Can Do Anything: The Surprising Power of a ‘Useless’ Liberal Arts Education, “The job market is quietly creating thousands of openings a week for people who can bring a humanist’s grace to our rapidly evolving high-tech future.”

The Digital Humanities isn’t just about where you start — it’s about where you can go. As the digital world continues to evolve, so will the opportunities for those equipped with both the critical insight of a humanities scholar and the technical expertise of a digital professional. With a Digital Humanities degree, you’re not just entering the workforce; you’re entering a future that you can help shape.

Are you passionate about research, writing, and understanding the breadth of the human experience? Are you a future novelist, educator, librarian, or historian? We’ve got a place for you in Digital Humanities!
