My Story: Alexis Blunk (Welch)
In 2019, Alexis Blunk (formerly Welch) was announced as the first-ever head coach of Jessup STUNT. Within four seasons, Blunk transformed the Warriors into a national powerhouse, securing three consecutive National Championships before departing the NAIA.
Athletic Director Lance Von Vogt reflected, “When we hired Alexis, we signaled our commitment to making STUNT a flagship program. Alexis, a former STUNT competitor at NCAA Division I Cal Poly University, brought unrivaled energy and enthusiasm from day one. Her technical expertise and strategic insights have proven invaluable.”
Last Fall, Blunk captivated over 400 Jessup Gala attendees when she shared her story. “The energy of cheerleading always enchanted me,” she shared. From hometown football games to championships at Disney World, Blunk’s passion for cheerleading was ignited by the bright uniforms, synchronized routines, and exhilarating cheers.
The inaugural season of Jessup STUNT kicked off in 2021, with an empty gym due to the pandemic and a challenging 0-8 record. Despite setbacks, Blunk remained focused on her calling: to develop athletic abilities and guide her team into strong, faith-filled young women.
Blunk emphasized a growth mindset, viewing each setback as a stepping stone. Gradually, skepticism gave way to trust and practice sessions became gatherings of camaraderie. The team found joy in building the legacy they were destined to create.
By the second season, the Warriors performed in front of fans for the first time post-pandemic and soared to No. 2 in the NAIA STUNT rankings. They earned a spot in the STUNT National Championship and dazzled their home crowd with a thrilling 9-8 victory over defending champions Vanguard, achieving a 13-5 record.
Blunk’s exceptional leadership earned her the inaugural Jessup Athletics Coach of the Year and USA Cheer’s NAIA Coach of the Year honors.
Building on their 2022 championship success, the Warriors continued to dominate in 2023, winning a program-record 18 games. Seven CSCA All-Americans, including four First-Team selections, highlighted the season. Blunk’s exceptional leadership earned her the inaugural Jessup Athletics Coach of the Year and USA Cheer’s NAIA Coach of the Year honors.
In 2024, the Warriors completed a historic three-peat, defeating Hope International to clinch their third consecutive NAIA STUNT National Championship.
While the athletic achievements are remarkable, Blunk takes the most pride in her athletes’ spiritual growth. “They amaze me not only as skilled competitors but also as individuals with strong moral character, resilience, and a sense of purpose,” she said.
Through triumph and adversity, Alexis Blunk has cemented Jessup STUNT’s legacy, inspiring a generation of athletes to excel both on and off the mat.
