JESSUP MUSIC RECORDS AT ABBEY ROAD STUDIOS
Jessup Music is pushing boundaries and creating unforgettable experiences for its students. This May, alumni and members of Jessup’s University Choir & Orchestra (UCO) take center stage at Abbey Road, one of the most iconic recording studios in history. The group will embark on a 12-day European tour as they expand Jessup Music’s footprint to international proportions, visiting and performing in Great Britain, Belgium and France.
For decades, Abbey Road Studios has been the heart of musical innovation and creativity. From The Beatles to Lady Gaga, countless legends and soundtracks for blockbuster films have crafted their masterpieces within these walls. Now Jessup Music students will join the ranks of musical greats when they record their own harmonies in the same studio that shaped the history of music.
“No other university is providing their students with this kind of transformative experience,” said Jessup’s Associate Dean, Tom Ruscica. “We continue to give students big experiential learning opportunities. The skills, connections, and memories our students gain from this journey will not only enhance their academic endeavors, but also pave the way for future musical success.”
Students and alumni plan to record 10 classical songs including Vivaldi’s “Gloria,” Beethoven’s “Hallelujah” (from Mount of Olives) and Mozart’s “Lacrimosa” (from Requiem) in Studio One, the world’s largest purpose-built recording studio known for its exceptional acoustics and state-of-the-art technology. Students benefit from the expertise of working with top-notch producers and sound engineers whose insights will refine their skills and elevate their performance. Meeting and collaborating with industry professionals, including producers, musicians, and composers can open doors to exciting career opportunities and future collaborations.
The UCO also has performances booked in Bruges, Belgium at Sint Salvator Cathedral and Saint-Sulpice in Paris, France. Students will take the Jessup Music experience to regions that are unaware of the mission and vision of the growing University and music program.
When they aren’t performing or recording, the group will visit memorable sites including Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, the Tower of London, Bruges Grote Markt, canal tours and Gothic architecture to name a few. In Paris, students will tour sights including the Louvre, Versailles, Notre-Dame Cathedral and of course, the Eiffel Tower.
“Getting to record at Abbey Road is the opportunity of a lifetime,” said commercial music student Joshua Gluck. “I’m thrilled to perform in a space where so many of the greats have recorded in the past and learn from experts in the field.”
“As a senior classman, going to Europe with Jessup Music is an opportunity to walk alongside those who came before me and those that follow as we praise Jesus Christ in song,” said Theatre Arts and Music major Tara Harness. “It’s a privilege to be able to visit monuments of music and of Christianity with this group, which has been instrumental in my growth as a musician and a Christian.”
