Athletics 2025 Banner Year – New Era Ahead

The 2025 season will be remembered as a landmark year for Jessup University, a period of unprecedented athletic success that saw three teams claim national titles, three individual titles and the institution secure full NCAA membership. The men’s volleyball, softball, baseball and women’s track and field programs each capped off remarkable seasons by winning their respective National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) championships, showcasing the University’s growing dominance in collegiate athletics.

In their inaugural season, the Jessup men’s volleyball team defied expectations, culminating their historic run as the NCCAA’s best. The Warriors swept Roberts Wesleyan in the championship match, with standout player Jan Lopuch earning Most Outstanding Player honors.

Following this success, Jessup softball secured their national title by winning the NCCAA Softball National Championship. The team’s two-game run to the title included a dominant 10-6 victory over Fort Lauderdale and a nail-biting 3-2 win against Mid-America Christian. This win concluded their season as a provisional member of NCAA Division II on the highest possible note.

Jessup baseball claimed the national championship by defeating Mission University 11-5. The team’s collective effort and clutch hitting, particularly in the eighth inning, secured a historic win for the program. The women’s track and field team also had a standout performance at the NCCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championship. Julia Pisenti earned two national championships in the discus and javelin events and was named the 2025 Field Athlete of the Meet. Additionally, Jocelyn Pedretti added to the team’s success by winning the national title in the heptathlon.

These athletic triumphs laid the foundation for an even greater institutional achievement: Jessup University was granted full NCAA membership. This milestone was reached after the University successfully completed its provisional membership in just two years, a testament to the dedication of its administration and staff. Effective September 1, 2025, Jessup became eligible for all PacWest and NCAA postseason events, offering its student-athletes new opportunities for regional and national recognition.

The transition to full NCAA Division II membership is significant. As President Jackson states, “Joining NCAA Division II is a major milestone for our University. It represents a commitment to both academic and athletic excellence, allowing us to elevate our programs and attract talented student-athletes who will contribute to the overall growth and reputation of our institution.”

Interim Athletic Director Scott Sorgea echoes this sentiment, highlighting the benefit for student-athletes: “As an active NCAA Division II member, we are able to offer a competitive and dynamic student-athlete experience, one that aligns with our mission to educate transformational leaders for the glory of God.” This new era promises to showcase the University’s strong academic programs alongside its growing athletic achievements.
