Below are the six courses required for the Executive Coaching Certification.
Courses (12 units)
In this course, students learn the fundamentals of coaching including defining the process. They will be introduced to the International Coach Federation (ICF) competencies, basic/common models (e.g. hourglass, GROW), ethics in coaching, coaching to diversity, etc. (ICF competencies A, B, C)
In this course, students learn how to coach people through change and transition; the neuroscience underlying the efficacy of coaching; as well as the use of learning theory, positive psychology, wellbeing, and happiness studies in coaching. (ICF competencies B, D)
In this course, students learn how to utilize a “coach approach” in their leading and managing direct reports and others. (ICF competencies C, D)
In this course, students identify and collate useful coaching tools compatible with their own personality and coaching approach, and suitable for the needs and purposes of those whom they coach. The course helps students assess the value of inventories and other common coaching tools. (ICF competencies A, C, D)
Group coaching practicum. In the practicum, students get involved in a supervised peer-coaching experience. This seven-week experience involves online synchronous chats and presentations, uploading recorded student coaching practice, peer review, and instructor support, feedback, and evaluation. (ICF competencies B, C, D)
Choose any elective from among the eleven MA in Leadership Core Leadership courses.
