William Jessup University will delight audiences at the start of the holiday season as they present Disney’s Beauty and the Beast slated for November 9, 10, 11, 16 and 17 with the final performance on Sunday, November 18. Friday show times are 8 p.m., Saturday performances are at 2 and 8 p.m. with matinee performances at 2 p.m. on Sundays.
The growing university’s theatre program recently took home 11 Elly Awards from the Sacramento Area Regional Theatre Alliance’s annual award program. Jessup theatre received nine awards in the musical category, including best choreography, costume design, direction, leading male, lighting design, musical direction, set design, sound design, and overall production for their fall production of Scrooge the Musical. The department was also recognized for best lighting and sound design for the comedic Sherlock Holmes: the Hound of the Baskervilles, which was performed for sellout crowds last spring.
Jessup’s winning design and production teams in addition to a talented array of cast members invite the surrounding community to see this classic fairytale come to life onstage featuring the beloved characters and songs including “Be Our Guest”, “Gaston” and the title song, “Beauty and the Beast.”
Ticket holders are encouraged to come an hour before show time to experience a Dickens Village come to life. Participants will be able to do some Christmas shopping, listen to carolers, interact with Dickens characters and experience great food and hot chocolate while creating lasting memories complete with photo opportunities.
Aspects of the pre-show are specifically designed for children including Belle’s Boutique and other interactive activities. Kids are welcomed and encouraged to dress like their favorite fairytale character. There is no additional charge to attend the pre-show experience.
“This preshow will be a fully immersive experience rich with the spirit of the Christmas season and a pinch of fairytale enchantment for our younger audience members” Director Jennifer Martin said. “This is a perfect event to establish or continue a holiday tradition with friends and family.”
