Having earned his doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.), and a Th.M. in Spiritual Theology, Richard has been teaching courses dealing with Human Psychology, the Humanities, and Spiritual Transformation for approximately 30 years now in his academic career at various universities.

As an Associate Professor at Jessup, Richard teaches graduate and undergraduate classes dealing with the following themes: ‘Theories of Personality & Psychotherapy’, ‘Group Psychotherapy’, ‘Abnormal Psychology & Psychopathology’, ‘Couples and Marital Therapy’, ‘Community Psychology’, ‘Human Sexuality’, and various courses dealing with the integration of Psychology, Religion, Faith, and Learning.

In all of these courses Richard seeks to address what it means to be a person, to face hardships and struggles, to grow as a person, and to craft a life full of meaning and purpose with and for others. Richard specializes in conveying the need for, and nature of, human transformation using current research in Psychology, Psychotherapy, and Religion, with specialization in the robust Christian traditions.

When practicing as a therapist, Richard has a passion for partnering with others as they deal with relationship issues, emotional issues (e.g. depression and anxiety), and spiritual issues. He walks with others through grief & bereavement; sexual issues; trauma; substance abuse and other recovery issues.

Richard enjoys working with children & adolescents, individuals and groups, parents and families, singles and couples who are seeking to overcome the specific obstacles that complicate their lives and growth in wisdom. He provides personalized coaching and consultation for those who want to flourish, and become more fully alive.

Richard engages in public speaking, leading couples & marriage retreats, executive coaching and consultation, and preparing therapists, educators, and leaders in various professions for challenges they face in personal and professional development in today’s challenging times.
